Undateable

As I mentioned in a previous post, one of the shows I was going to check out this summer was Undateable, a comedy about one guy trying to teach a bunch of romantic duds how to find love and/or get laid.  Just from looking at the premise and seeing a few promos, I was thinking that I’d watch the first couple episodes and that would be the end of it.

I actually really enjoyed it, though, and I encourage everyone to check it out.

Danny (Chris D’Elia) is a stud with a different woman in his bed every night. His new roommate Justin (newcomer Brent Morin) has had a crush on his coworker, Nicki (Briga Heelan) for a year and has never been able to make a move. Danny’s sister, Leslie (Bianca Kajlich) is also unlucky in love and she, Danny and Justin’s loser friends, Shelly (Ron Funches), Burski (Rick Glassman) and Brett (David Fynn) hang out at Justin’s bar to talk about their sorrows and try to learn from Danny.

There were a few definite missteps in the pilot, but NBC aired two episodes in a row, which was smart. The second episode was much stronger. Danny is a man-child, a fact which is repeatedly pointed out by both Justin and Leslie, but there are moments where it seems he’s going to grow from this experience of helping others. However, that’s not really the interesting part.  The ensemble cast really steal the show, especially Funches. In every situation, he always has something to say that is both appropriate and hilarious. Much of it has to do with his style of delivery, so I will definitely be watching out for more of him on television in the future.

Overall, the show has a lot of promise. If nothing else, I’ll be tuning in for Shelley every week.
